Who doesn’t start out the new year by vowing to work out more, weigh less, or improve themselves in some way or another? While intentions may be good, they invariably fall by the wayside. We all need something to get us motivated to keep moving.

The folks at TEAS’ TEA had that very thought in mind when they came up with the Get Your Bits Fit sweepstakes. Created to help consumers keep their New Year’s resolutions, TEAS’ TEA will be giving away a Fitbit Flex Activity Tracker every day in January 2014. This wireless wearable device syncs to smartphones or computers to track physical activity stats, helping to motivate wearers to get up and move more and ultimately meet their fitness goals. It counts steps taken, calories burned, distance traveled, and a variety of other factors depending upon the model.

“With many people setting New Year’s resolutions for a healthier regime, we are excited to be a part of helping realize individual goals. We hope the balance of our healthy beverages and the tracking of physical activity through the Fitbit will help achieve their fitness resolutions,” says Rona Tison, Senier Vice President of Corporate Relations of ITO EN (North America) Inc.

Worn like a watch, the Fitbit Flex allows wearers to set personal goals, sync stats wirelessly, see real-time progress, and stay motivated. It tracks and displays steps, distance traveled, and calories burned. At night, it tracks sleep length and quality and vibrates to wake you in the morning. It also greets you with a cute little smiley face, or frown depending upon your activity level. The Fitbit Flex retails for around $99.99.

With the idea that more movement means more fitness and health benefits, Fitbit encourages 10,000 steps a day (approximately five miles) as a general guideline for daily exercise. This number is also recommended by the American Heart Association for improving health and decreasing the risk of heart disease. I’ve figured out that 2,000 of my fairly average steps equals one mile, so the 10,000 figure sounds about right.

While bringing awareness to the health benefits of drinking the all-natural bottled green teas, consumers can enter every day on the TEAS’ TEA Facebook page for a chance to become one of the 31 daily winners of a Fitit Flex Tracker. The promotion runs from January 1 to January 31, 2014. Enter at Facebook.com/itoen.teastea.

TEAS’ TEA Latte was awarded Best New Product in 2013 by the World Tea Expo for its authentic tea taste and all natural ingredients. With a suggested retail of $1.79 – $2.29, TEAS’ TEA is available in specialty and grocery stores nationwide. I’ve seen a large selection at my local Whole Foods store. I recently purchased a Fitbit Zip (the smallest in the line of Fitbit products) and plan to put it to use. In the short amount of time I’ve had it, I really feel like I have more incentive to get out and move. I want to see that little smiley face, not a grumpy one! My main motive for purchase is that I’ve always wondered how far I actually do walk during a day in a theme park or out sightseeing. It feels like miles and miles. I will keep you updated on my fitness milestones. One of those aforementioned resolutions is to get into running/fast walking shape and take part in some runDisney events. I figure it’s another way to show my #DisneySide.

Oh, and TEAS’ TEA is really refreshing. You should try it.

I would love a fitbit because I believe it will give me motivation to move and keep active. Watching the number of steps will be encouraging and watching the numbers on the scale do down will be life changing!
