Universal Orlando Planning Volcano Bay Water Park

Speculation has been brewing for quite a while, and Universal Orlando has just put the rumors to rest. The resort is indeed planning its third completely new theme park. Joining Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure will be the Volcano Bay water park.

At this time, there aren’t a whole lot of details known about it. According to the press release, Universal’s Volcano Bay will appeal to the whole family, and it will be a whole new experience that reimagines what it means to be a water park. Innovative and thrilling attractions, peaceful moments of relaxation, and the guest experience itself will change the perception of water parks.

True to Universal’s minute attention to detail, Volcano Bay will be set in a highly themed, immersive environment inspired by postcard-perfect tropical islands. It will be the kind of place that only the Universal team – the creative folks behind Spider-Man, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Simpson’s Springfield –  can envision and create.

Universal’s Volcano Bay will be located within Universal Orlando Resort, just south of the Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Work has already begun, and a tentative date for opening is 2017. My guess is sometime in the summer. Makes sense to me, anyway. More details will be released in the future.

Universal Orlando’s current lineup of theme parks and hotels includes Universal Studios Florida, Unversal’s Islands of Adventure, Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort as well as the dining and entertainment of Universal CityWalk and Wet ‘n Wild water park.

Current construction at Universal Orlando includes the attraction Skull Island: Reign of Kong at Islands of Adventure and the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, which open in 2016.
