Finnegan’s Flyer Screamin’ Swing now open at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

After months of construction, painting and trial runs (err … swings), guests can finally swing and sway to a Celtic beat on Finnegan’s Flyer. The newest thrill ride to join the Busch Gardens landscape, this exhilarating Screamin’ Swing is located at the Killarney Bridge entrance to the Ireland village.

Finnegan’s Flyer takes 32 riders to heights of more than 80 feet and speeds of up to 45 mph. Two pendulum-like arms swing back and forth, getting progressively higher and providing riders with incredible views of the park.

“Once again Busch Garden has designed a ride that pushes the thrill ride envelope,” said Kevin Lembke, park president. “We’re committed to providing new and unique experiences year after year. We design these rides for our fans and strive to make each one a unique experience you can only get at Busch Gardens.”

The official ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Friday, May 3, 2019. Along with media members, park officials and park guests, dignitaries on hand included Virginia Senator Tommy Norment, Executive Director and CEO of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Council Vicki Cimino, John McGlennon of the County Board of Supervisors and James City County Administrator Scott Stevens.

“We love the name and how it naturally fits into our Ireland village. It visually grabs your attention,” said Suzy Cheely, senior leader of design and engineering at Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA. “This ride is huge. The swings go back and forth, increasing in height, until they go beyond 90 degrees. As you swing back and forth, you catch some airtime, which is similar to a roller coaster. That may be unexpected, so people may be getting more of a thrill than they think.” Added Cheely.

Have you purchased a Busch Gardens/Water Country USA membership yet? There’s even more thrills coming with the soon-to-be open Cutback Water Coaster at Water Country, not to mention super fun events such as the Food & Wine Festival, Summer Nights, Bier Fest, Howl-O-Scream and Christmas Town.
